I am Dr. Robert Kennedy of Kennedy Family and Cosmetic Dentistry and I know that the appearance of your smile is a huge impact on the way you feel about yourself. Your smile is the first thing people notice about you and having a great smile is an instant confidence booster. Having a healthy mouth is extremely important, but I want to help you achieve your cosmetic dental dreams.
As a family dentist, I know that good oral hygiene habits start early and have a strong impact on life-long oral health. Brushing habits and healthy eating are both good ways to teach your kids about the importance of maintaining a healthy smile, but what else is out there to ensure the protection of your kids’ smiles?
I am Dr. Robert Kennedy of Bedford Family and Cosmetic Dentistry and I am here to tell you about sealants and fluoride. Dental sealants are a thin, plastic film that is applied directly to the teeth, usually to children’s primary molars and other hard to reach spots. Each sealant is specially designed to fit your child’s needs during a fast and comfortable process. These sealants act as a physical barrier that stops any food or unwanted bacteria from getting stuck in the deep grooves that are common in teeth. They are highly effective in preventing tooth decay and cavities and are incredibly safe, so I recommend sealants for the majority of my young patients. Also, dental sealants dissolve over time as teeth grow, so they never have to be removed.
Our moms have always told us how important it is to go to the dentist every six months, and here at Kennedy Family Dentistry, I tend to agree. Regular dental checkups and cleanings are essential to the long-term health of your mouth, and therefore, your body.
Your mouth endures extreme pressure, intense temperature fluctuations, and about 600 different types of bacteria every day. Combine those extremes with the sugars, starches, and acidic beverages that are consumed daily and you have a recipe for dental disaster.
As a father, my kids’ health is one of my top priorities. As a general family dentist, your kids’ dental health becomes one of my top priorities. My staff, many of whom are parents, and I have all fought (and hopefully succeeded) in the battle of getting the kids to brush their teeth.
Teaching children proper brushing habits sets a good foundation for a healthy mouth that will last a lifetime. Dental health is an important component of overall health, so it is important to know that the kiddos are brushing their teeth thoroughly, rather than just putting some toothpaste on a toothbrush and swishing it around for a few seconds.
You want the best for your kids: the best schools, the best career opportunities, the best healthcare. As a father, I understand. As your family dentist, I also want the best for your children. That’s why, at Kennedy Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer children’s dentistry and parent training. This means, instead of just taking your child back, cleaning his teeth, and returning him to your care, we’ll give you and your child advice, tips, and help on the best way to take care of your teeth at home.
